Women at the Business School

Harvard Business School has increased the number of women in its MBA program from 32 in 1970 to 178 in 1980, yet women remain significantly outnumbered and underrepresented, particularly among the faculty, with only one tenured woman professor. The admissions process has historically favored men, and despite improvements in female applicants' qualifications, the school has been slow to recruit more women. Criticism includes the persistence of negative stereotypes in the curriculum and inadequate efforts to address gender disparities. Efforts by the Women's Student Association to revise case studies face resistance, and while HBS claims a commitment to equal opportunity and affirmative action, the slow progress and ongoing challenges cast doubt on the sincerity and effectiveness of these efforts.
