Woman GSAS Students To Fight for Equal Jobs

Fourteen female graduate students at Harvard have established the Graduate Women's Organization to advocate for equal job opportunities for women within University faculties. Co-chaired by Ann Michelini, the organization plans to decentralize into task forces and address issues such as equal pay, job consideration, child-care facilities, and the abolition of nepotism rules. The group's initial project involves meeting with every department chair in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences to discuss hiring practices. They aim to collaborate with Radcliffe students and other women's groups, such as the Women's Faculty Group and the Women's Equity Action League. Presently, women hold a small percentage of faculty positions at Harvard, with only two full professors in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
