Harvard Dean of Faculty Hoekstra Confirms Anthropology Prof. John Comaroff Still Sanctioned
John L. Comaroff, a Harvard professor accused of sexual harassment, remains sanctioned and is prohibited from teaching undergraduate courses, according to Dean Hopi E. Hoekstra of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Comaroff, currently on medical leave according to his lawyers was initially sanctioned in January 2022 by then-FAS Dean Claudine Gay for violating the school's sexual harassment and professional conduct policies. These sanctions included barring him from teaching courses and taking on new graduate students. Despite completing his unpaid leave, Comaroff's return in fall 2022 led to student protests demanding his resignation and stronger actions against sexual misconduct. The University is also facing a lawsuit from three Anthropology graduate students alleging long-term neglect of complaints against Comaroff.| Creator |
