Sexual Assault Report Lambasts Final Clubs
The University’s Task Force on Sexual Assault Prevention's report criticized historically male final clubs, citing misogynistic attitudes and high rates of nonconsensual sexual contact among members, and urging administrative action. 47% of female seniors involved with Final Clubs reported experiencing nonconsensual sexual contact since entering college, the highest rate among groups surveyed. This compares to a 31% rate among all Harvard female seniors. Club-hosted parties have “reinforced a sense of sexual entitlement,” according to the report also citing student accounts of “parties at which the only non-members in attendance were women selected mainly by virtue of their physical appearance,” as well as party themes that portray women as “sexual objects.” In response to fears of administrative sanctions prohibiting undergraduate membership in single-gender clubs, the Fox Club become co-ed.| Creator |
