Playboy Distribution Choice Angers Women
The placement of Playboy magazine on reference shelves in Lamont Library has sparked a debate among women on campus about pornography, free speech, and community response. Some women feel the magazine's presence could create an uncomfortable environment, particularly for freshmen studying in the library. Library staff report minimal undergraduate reaction to the magazine's availability, which was previously kept in a secluded area known as "the closet" for magazines with missing issues. The decision to move Playboy to the reference shelves was made by Lamont's senior management group. Although some female students have voiced concerns and hinted at possible actions in the fall. Despite these concerns, some students believe the library should carry such magazines and that the focus should instead be on more pressing issues, such as hiring more female faculty.| Creator |
