38 Harvard Faculty Sign Open Letter Questioning Results of Misconduct Investigations into Prof. John Comaroff

Nearly 40 Harvard faculty members signed an open letter questioning the outcome of misconduct investigations into John L. Comaroff, a professor placed on unpaid leave for violating sexual misconduct policies. Despite the sanctions imposed by College Dean Claudine Gay, the signatories expressed support for Comaroff, citing his contributions as a colleague and advisor and questioning Harvard's criteria for professional conduct and advisor responsibilities. Gay defended the sanctions, emphasizing that the signatories lacked access to the complete investigation findings. The open letter also queried why a second investigation was initiated, prompting Gay to stress the complexity of the case.
