Here's How I Was Raped
In 2013, the author experienced a traumatic sexual assault by a previous friend. Initially struggling with denial and sadness, she eventually found healing through therapy and self-love, but acknowledge the lasting effects. The author had attended a formal event at a final club with a classmate, during which excessive drinking led to her losing her memory and the subsequent assault. Throughout the night she would wake up to the perpetuator penetrating her despite her being clearly incapacitated. The author criticizes the notion of "gray area" in sexual assault as alcohol does not excuse perpetrators' actions. She argues for a culture of explicit consent and calls for collective responsibility in addressing sexual violence, both from institutions like Harvard and individuals.| Creator |
