‘We’ll Keep Telling the Truth’: A Century Later, Harvard Affiliates Continue Pushing Harvard to Address 1920 Secret Court
A group of Harvard affiliates at the Born This Way Foundation's launch pushes for Harvard to recognize the history of its Secret Court, which had been used in 1920 to investigate and persecute students for homosexuality. Two of the men convicted by the Court died by suicide, and others were expelled from Harvard. In the face of this history, this group of affiliates calls for Harvard to do more than acknowledge this history, but to take action such as awarding posthumous honorary degrees to victims of the Court. Since then, groups and individuals like Secret Court 100--a group of Harvard students and faculty formed in 2020--have continued to educate Harvard affiliates on the Court's history and promote a safer environment for BGLTQ students.| Creator |
