Conservatives Come Out, 'Queer' Group Protests
A student group called the Queer Resistance Front protested the appropriation of 'coming out' by several conservative campus groups at their Second Annual "Coming Out" dinner. The chair of the Undergraduate Council's Anti-Homophobia Task Force also attended the event and spoke to the attendees, explaining the insensitivity of borrowing language from the gay rights movement and scheduling the event on World AIDS Day. However, the dinner organizers felt that the event name was a casual reference, and some attendees attested that they felt being a conservative was a minority identity, and that "coming out" was an apt phrase for their experience.| Creator |
