How Other Schools Handle Date Rape Cases
The issue of date and acquaintance rape has recently gained significant attention at Harvard, leading to accusations from students that the administration is indifferent or hostile towards victims. In response to student protests, Harvard has agreed to form a commission to study potential reforms of the Administrative Board (Ad Board), which handles rape cases. Nadja B. Gould, a Harvard rape counselor, emphasized the importance of studying policies from other colleges, such as Princeton and the University of California at San Diego, which have different approaches to handling rape cases. For example, Princeton includes students in the disciplinary process and offers a middle path for victims who do not want to file a formal complaint. UC San Diego's policies state that an intoxicated person cannot legally consent to sex, making such acts statutory rape. Despite these policies, many students remain unaware of their legal rights, highlighting the need for comprehensive education on campus.| Creator |
