Tony Porter Calls on Men to Stop Violence

Tony Porter, co-founder of A Call to Men, addressed a predominantly male audience at the CGIS Tsai Auditorium, emphasizing that changing dominant perceptions of manhood is crucial for combating violence against women. During his interactive lecture, Porter engaged the audience in discussions about societal expectations of manhood and the roles of men and women. He urged the attendees to envision a better world for their daughters and consider the kind of men they want their sons to become. Porter highlighted the stereotypical "Male Box" filled with traits like "strong" and "tough," explaining how these expectations create a disconnect between men and women. He stressed the importance of men using their influence to prevent violence against women, noting that if women could end the violence alone, they would have.
