Medical Campus Alerted to Rapes
Following two rapes at gunpoint in Boston, including one in Longwood’s Mission Hill neighborhood, police warned students at Harvard’s Longwood medical campus to avoid walking alone at night. The Boston Police Department and the Harvard University Police Department issued advisories, but some Harvard College students criticized the lack of direct notification. The incidents involved a 19-year-old woman and a 23-year-old woman being abducted, pistol-whipped, and raped by two men. Harvard's Coalition Against Sexual Violence members felt they should have been alerted, given the mobility of the attackers. The attacks sparked a debate on the dissemination of crime alerts, with some advocating broader notifications to ensure safety, especially for students frequently traveling between campuses.| Creator |
