Testimony Begins in Worker’s Lawsuit
Desiree Goodwin, a library assistant at Harvard's Graduate School of Design’s Loeb Library, began her testimony in her lawsuit against the University for gender and racial discrimination. Goodwin claims she has been repeatedly passed over for promotions in favor of less qualified white men and women, despite her Master's degree in Library Science. She alleges her employer criticized her attire and told her she would never be promoted at Harvard. University spokesman Joe Wrinn declined to discuss the specifics but stated such cases are uncommon. Goodwin’s lawyer, Jonathan Margolis, and union representative Geoffrey Carens support her claims, with Carens stating that favoritism and discrimination are prevalent at Harvard. Harvard's lawyers argued that the comments made to Goodwin, while potentially offensive, did not constitute discrimination.| Creator |
