Harassment Case Sparks Graduate Student Boycott
A week after allegations that Professor Jorge I. Dominguez sexually harassed a junior faculty member surfaced, a group of graduate students decided to boycott his courses. The students, who were enrolled in Dominguez's fall classes, criticized the University for keeping the details of the case secret and called for the charges and punishment to be made public. They also demanded the hiring of another senior faculty member specializing in Latin American studies and requested student representation on the committee formed to recommend safeguards against sexual harassment. One undergraduate, Michael Heller ’85, also withdrew from Dominguez’s seminar in protest. Dominguez, who returned from a conference in Mexico, declined to comment on the allegations. Despite the boycott, some students felt compelled to continue attending Dominguez's classes due to academic requirements, expressing a conflict between ethical concerns and practical needs.| Creator |
