Law Profs Urge New Faculty Hiring Process

A group of 15 Harvard Law School professors called for the elimination of the current faculty appointments committee. The professors condemned a recent parody published in the Harvard Law Review, which they argued contained misogynistic and racist content. The parody included a satire of an article by murdered feminist scholar Mary Joe Frug, which critics said was misogynistic and insensitive, as well as an article questioning the scholarship of two Black tenure-track professors. The professors demanded that Dean Robert C. Clark appoint a special committee to investigate the incident and expressed dissatisfaction with his handling of the matter. The professors argued that the current appointments committee perpetuates discrimination and called for a new committee committed to creating a diverse faculty. This push for reform follows student protests and calls for Clark’s resignation. Clark defended his stance, emphasizing freedom of expression and announcing plans for an open forum to discuss community issues.
