Too Busy to Care?
The article highlights how Radcliffe students at Harvard face a one-in-eight chance of being raped during their college years, typically by someone they know. Despite the high incidence, only about 4 percent report the assaults due to slim chances of conviction and fear of grueling cross-examinations, leading 90 percent to remain silent. While other colleges have implemented programs to address date rape by challenging societal myths and raising awareness, Harvard has not effectively tackled the issue. Many freshmen proctors at Harvard decline to host these workshops, deeming the topic too disturbing. Harvard has also never conducted a study on campus rape incidents, highlighting an awareness gap. The article calls for mandatory workshops during freshman week to proactively address date rape.| Creator |
