Two Radcliffe Girls, Elderly Woman Assaulted in Cambridge Common

A drunken man allegedly assaulted two Radcliffe students and an elderly woman in Cambridge Commons. The attacker emerged from the shadows, knocking down one of the women. Their screams attracted two passersby who intervened, but the assailant fled when he appeared to reach for a knife. Cambridge police, drawn by the commotion, apprehended the man but found no weapon and, since the women did not report the assault, charged him only with drunkenness and disorderly conduct. The man was identified as a 27-year-old married Cambridge resident.
